RP fetes Israeli team for 'Ondoy' medical mission

Philippine officials in Israel held a dinner in honor of a medical mission that went to the Philippines to aid victims of tropical storm "Ondoy" (Ketsana).

The Department of Foreign Affairs cited a report from Philippine Ambassador to Israel Petronila Garcia that she thanked those behind the medical mission for their help.

She particularly thanked the American-Jewish Committee, IsraAID, and members of the medical mission for their invaluable assistance at a crucial and challenging time.

Garcia cited IsraAID and Operation Blessing for their collaboration, which she said paved the way for the medical mission.

She added that their work in the Philippines have made a significant impact on the lives of the thousands of Filipinos affected by the wrath of the tropical cyclone.

The envoy also thanked Carmel Hacohen, Honorary Consul General of the Philippines in Haifa, for his personal contribution to the victims of “Ondoy."

“Israel is (always) prepared to assist (the Philippines) and that our continued cooperation will (further) strengthen the warm relations between the two countries," the DFA quoted Garcia as saying in her report.

Present at the reception were IsraAID chairman Shachar Zahavi, Operation Blessing chairwoman Charmaine Hedding, Chaim Choshen, Director of Southeast Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ramat Gan Deputy Mayor Mully Dor, and medical mission team leader Elad
Seker.

Other members of the medical mission and present during the dinner were Shlomi Anavy, Dr. Amnon Tzvieli, Vardit Aloni, Daniel Grupel and Meir Ofer. - GMANews.TV
