The mother of the suspect in the road-rage killing of a Malacañang official’s son said on Friday her son was victim of a frameup orchestrated by the United States government.
Artist and author Marlene Aguilar claimed her son, Jason Ivler, is being linked to the crime only because of her work in "exposing the connivance between the US and Philippine governments" in the past years.
"I believe that my son was framed. And who framed my son? The Americans framed my son," a tearful Aguilar said after she was subpoenaed by the National Bureau of Investigation to give her statement on the allegations against Ivler.
The US embassy said that while it has seen media reports of the case, it is not familiar with the details.
US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney told GMANews.TV, "I am not familiar with the case at all."
Ivler, a US citizen in his late 20s, is the prime suspect in the killing of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., 27, son of presidential chief of staff Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. The young Ebarle was shot dead following a traffic altercation on Boni Serrano Avenue in Quezon City last November 18.
Ivler’s mother, sister of folk singer Freddie Aguilar, said her son was "framed" the day of the launching of her novel, Warriors of Heaven, which she said speaks of the "ugliness" of the US government.
"What are the chances that on the day of my book launching, my home was raided by five (men)?" Aguilar said. "This is not about my son but about the ugliness of the US and the Philippines."
Aguilar, however, did not give any more details about the possible motives of the US government, besides her book launch, in framing up her son.
Aguilar also said she has no idea where Ivler is, insisting that he has nothing to do with Ebarle’s killing. She described his son as a “cool-headed" child.
She nevertheless appealed anew to her son to surrender if indeed he committed the crime.
"If you are guilty, I beg you with all my heart to please surrender because they are harassing the people that you love," she said.
Earlier in the day, police said the reward for any information leading to the arrest of Ivler was increased to P500,000. [See: Cops increase reward vs suspect in Ebarle slay to P500K]
Police said Ivler was also involved in a car accident five years ago which resulted in the death of another Malacañang official, Undersecretary Nestor Ponce. [See: 'Suspect in Ebarle slay was in 2004 car accident that killed a Palace exec'] - RSJ, GMANews.TV
