An apple pie for Noynoy on his 50th birthday

Presidential aspirant Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III received an apple pie on his 50th birthday last Monday. It was not an ordinary apple pie, though. It came from his girlfriend, Valenzuela City councilor Shalani Soledad.

During a light moment with reporters on the first day of the official campaign period, the Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer said Soledad took a break from campaigning for him so they could spend his birthday.

Si Shalani kinakampanya ako ngayong araw na 'to sa Valenzuela, kakabalik lang galing Zamboanga (Today Shalani is campaigning for me in Valenzuela, she just came back from Zamboanga)," Aquino said when asked why his girlfriend was absent at the kick-off of his campaign in Tarlac.

Kahapon kaya umuwi birthday ko po kahapon, nagkita kami (She returned yesterday because it was my birthday, so we saw each other)," he added.

Asked what Soledad gave him for his birthday, he answered with a smile: “Pagkain, dahil sweet raw ako, sweet yung binigay sa kin. Apple pie, actually (She gave me sweet food 'cause she said I was sweet)."

Aquino added in jest that it was unfortunate he couldn't share the pie with reporters, joking that his nephew Joshua, the oldest son of his youngest sister Kris, had probably eaten half of it.

Aquino also played coy with regards to their plans for Valentine’s Day, saying it is between him and Soledad.

Soledad is a re-electionist. She moved to LP from administration party Lakas-Kampi-CMD last November. - Johanna Camille Sisante/KBK, GMANews.TV
